Seed Starting Classes Held at Country Stores

7161500_xlDuring February, the Burlington and Sedro-Woolley Country Stores hosted classes focused on seed starting. Burpee Seed representative, Everett LeRoy, spoke with employees and customers about new products, the use of seed tapes, self watering seed trays and pots, and discussed techniques and proper timing for getting a jump on the growing season. He gave a brief history of the Burpee Seed Company and handed out a packet containing growing tips, packets of Forget-Me-Nots and a growing guide. The latter part of the class was devoted to a question and answer period creating an infectious mood of spring fever.

At the Burlington Store, guests enjoyed the refreshments and raffle. The warm, sunny day added to the festive atmosphere and the winner of the gardening gift basket donated by Skagit Farmers left with soil, gloves, seeds and tools- ready to start planting! The sentiment of all who attended was “more classes like these!”

After the informative classes concluded, customers shopped the stores to buy seeds and seed starting equipment of their own. The class was a wonderful opportunity for people to become more familiar with the stores and our early spring products!
